Program Information

At GMHA we offer hockey from our Future Star Program to Midget. Below is a brief over view of the different programs offered.

Future Stars (2013)

The Future Star program is a beginner program designed to help future hockey players learn to skate and learn some very basic hockey skills. The program runs from mid September to mid February.  Ice times are Saturday mornings at 8am-9am.

The IP program (2012, 2011)

Beginning in the 2017-18 season, Hockey Canada has implemented a new policy that mandates cross-ice/half-ice hockey for players at the Initiation age level (traditionally 5- and 6-year-olds).

The purpose of the Initiation Program is to introduce the basic skills of the game, and make a child’s first introduction to the game one that is safe, enjoyable, and fun:

·Make it a positive experience for kids and their families – focus is on fun, learning, and playing in a team atmosphere, not on structured games

·Build the player’s confidence and give them a sense of accomplishing a skill while developing as a young player

The program is based with the players’ development in mind, starting with basic, technical skills.

Our IP players will participate in their home FUN day in February, where other IP teams will come to our arena and enjoy a day of hockey fun.

The IP Program runs from mid September and ends with the Fun Day in February. Ice times are Saturday mornings at 8am-9am, and Sundays from 7:30am to 8:30am.

Tyke Program (2010)

The Tyke program continues on developing the skills learned in IP, and progressing to games and to help players be ready for novice hockey the following year.  After December, the tyke’s will play a series of exhibition games against other teams in our area, there will be some travelling to other rinks involved.  In February, our Tyke’s will play in their home tournament.

The Tyke Program runs from mid September and ends at the end of February.  Ice times are Saturday mornings from 8am-9am, and Sundays from 7:30am-8:30am.  Dates and times of exhibition games are still to be determined.

Novice and above (2009-2000)

At novice and above there are two levels of hockey offered in Gananoque, local league (commonly called house league) and Representative hockey.

Our local league teams play in the Intercommunity Hockey League (ICHL), which comprises of the following centres: Gananoque, Loyalist, Fronteanc, Napanee, Stone Mills, Deseronto, PEC (Picton) and Stirling.  This league has both a regular season schedule and a playoff season, culminating with a Championship Day.

Our Representative teams play in the Eastern Ontario Minor Hockey League (EOMHL).  Rep hockey is a level of hockey higher than local league, and is residentially restricted. The EOMHL comprises of 20 different centres located to the west of us, some centres include: Ennismore, Bancroft, Centre Hastings, Brighton, Tweed, Loyalist, Frontenac, Napanee.

Novice and above teams start in mid September and go until the end of February/beginning of March. Ice times vary depending on levels.
